Earls Court is one of the most popular places to visit in London, but with such a rich history, tourists and residents alike rarely know all its secrets. Here are our top four facts about the area that you may not know…!

Earls Court has been home to a huge variety of celebrities and public figures, including Howard Carter, Benjamin Britten, Alfred Hitchcock, Princess Diana, Freddy Mercury and, most recently, Gary Barlow!

In the 1960s, Earls Court Road was affectionately nicknamed ‘Kangaroo Alley’ due to the large number of Australian and Kiwi residents living in the area.

Some areas of Earls Court – including Templeton and Nevern Place – are named after Welsh villages, after a series of marriages led to a Welsh family, the Edwardes, naming the land.

The Troubadour coffee house, on Old Brompton Road, was a melting pot for the British Folk Revival of the 1950s and 60s, as well as playing host to some of the most influential names in music, including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Elton John and Morrissey.
